Health Ministry: AIDS Tests Only in Recognized Places

The Health Ministry recommended, Sunday, against performing tests for the HIV virus in any place not recognized or regulated by the ministry. The ministry said the main reason is that the reliability of fast tests does not reach 100 percent and must be accompanied by a regular test.

A statement by the ministry read, "A quick self-performed check, unaccompanied by a normal test result may lead to a false result. A false positive result may lead to unnecessary and unjustified anxiety, while a false negative result may give false confidence that the patient is not carrying [the virus]."
