At least 130 people were killed in Syria on Saturday, rebel groups said. Protests against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad took place mainly in suburbs of Damascus. Forces loyal to Assad opened fire on protesters, killing dozens.
Earlier Saturday, Assad named a new government, in the hope of quelling some of the protests. The new Prime Minister is Riad Hijab, who served as minister of agriculture and agrarian reform, Assad said in a decree.
