Tel Aviv Inspectors, Police Remove Social Activists

Tel Aviv municipal inspectos, accompanied by Yassam special police, began, Friday morning, to forcibly remove social activists who had come to Rothschild Boulevard for protest activity that had been coordinated on Wednesday with the head of the municipality's business-license department.

Chairman Idan Miller of the joint camp said, "It is unthinkable that, in a democratic country, the public is being deprived the basic right to demonstrate and express its protest. The violent action of the Tel Aviv municipal inspectors, despite [our] receiving prior approval for the event, is an escalation by the authorities in their attempt to shut the mouths of the public demanding a change in the socio-economic agenda in Israel."
