Regavim to AG: Keep Politics Out of the Judicial System

Director Yehuda Eliyahu of the Regavim movement, which deals in legal issues involving state and Jewish lands, sent a letter to Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein, Friday, asking him to immediately cancel a lecture on "Innovations in Land Law" by attorney Michael Sfard, scheduled for an upcoming in-service seminar for state attorneys. Sfard objects to military service and has regularly represented extreme leftist groups Peace Now and Yesh Din.

Regavim called the lecture political, adding, "There is no place for mixing politics in the judicial system." The letter concludes by asking the attorney general "to refine the procedures for ordering lecturers for civil servants' training sessions so that such cases, severely damaging public confidence in the State Attorney's Office, are not repeated."
