The latest reports regarding the Ulpana neighborhood of Beit El are that an agreement has been worked out between the residents and the government. The new agreement stipulates that the residents will voluntarily leave their homes to live in temporary trailer homes. The five apartment complexes consisting of 30 units will not be destroyed but rather moved to a different neighborhood in Beit El.
The Ulpana neighborhood consists of several apartment buildings of which five are contested in a Supreme Court case. Above the Ulpana neighborhood is the Pisgat Yaakov neighborhood, home to several families, a stone tomb, several ancient mikvot and other Jewish archeological finds. According to many scholars, it is the site of the Biblical Jabob's ladder story.
