Opposition Concerned by Judges’ Work on Sabbath

MK Uri Ariel (Ichud Leumi), head of the State Control Committee, has asked Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman to remind judges of the rules regarding work on the Sabbath. Ariel’s request follows a report exposing a widespread phenomenon of work writing verdicts on the Sabbath.

Reporter Itamar Levine of the Machlaka Rishona website revealed the issue. He expressed concern that judges’ work on the Sabbath could become increasingly common, creating a situation where Sabbath-observing Jews are unable to work in the legal system.

He also expressed suspicion that the work – which was not urgent - was done in violation of laws regarding employment on the Sabbath.
