Benzi Gopstein, head of the Lehava Organization for the Prevention of Assimilation in the Holy Land, criticized on Tuesday the appointment of MK Einat Wilf (Independence) as chairwoman of the Knesset Education Committee, saying it is a disgrace that the State of Israel appoints a woman married to a gentile to such a role. Wilf is married to a non-Jewish German journalist. The couple has one son.
“They appoint someone who married a German gentile and nobody says a word,” Gopstein told Arutz Sheva, adding, “It's like placing MK Hanin Zoabi at the head of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. All the MKs we turned to are silent about it. It might not be politically correct, but as far as we’re concerned you cannot talk with Jewish girls against assimilation when the chair of the Education Committee married a gentile.”
