Comptroller to Probe Shai Nitzan Appointment Attempt

The Knesset State Control Committee ordered the state comptroller, Monday, to investigate suspicions of improper procedures in the Justice Ministry, related to an attempt to appoint former deputy prosecutor Shai Nitzan to the position of deputy attorney general.

The order came following a complaint by Member of Knesset Yariv Levin over the ministry's attempts to nominate Nitzan, after he resigned as deputy prosecutor for special roles. While Nitzan has been criticized for acting against the settlement enterprise in Judea and Samaria, Committee Chairman Uri Ariel stressed, during the committee meeting, "We are not discussing the merits of the personalities but are preventing - in real time - breakdowns in the order of government."
