Gains ranging from modest to sharp were posted at the end of trading, Sunday, at the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, with light volume typical on the day when trading is generally only done by Israelis. The TA Composite Index rose 1.4 percent to 979.29, while the TA 100 finished the day at 986.82, up 1.51 percent, including a 2.01 jump to 1,070.65 by the Maof 25 most-widely-invested issues.
Leading the way were the oil and gas stocks, which climbed 2.51 percent 1,116.92, followed by the bank index, which closed at 906.11, up 1.67 percent as the financial institutions advanced 1.2 percent to 836.92, including a 946.55 closing, up .13 percent, by the insurance issues. The biomed stocks rose 1.58 percent to 717.59 while the rest of the technology index finished the day at 354.34, up 1.12 percent. The communications and media stocks closed at 452.65, up 1.18 percent, and the real estate index closed at 272.20, up .76 percent.
