Hershkowitz Threatens to Quit Over "New Disengagement"

Knesset Minister Prof. Daniel Hershkowitz, the head of the Jewish Home Party threatened to leave the government coalition over the issue of razing homes in Beit El. "If there is a demolition policy, such as disengagement, I cannot consider myself part of such a government," he said.

Five apartment complexes in the Givat HaUlpana neighborhood of Beit El are scheduled for demolition on July 1st. The term disengagement usually refers to the 2005 Disengagement from Gaza and northern Samaria in which the Israeli government evicted and bulldozed the Jewish communities in the Gush Katif region and removed Jews from four northern Samarian communities.
