Court Petition to Stop Fluorination of Drinking Water

The Union of Local Authorities (ULA) today filed a petition in the High Court of Justice against the minister of health, seeking to stop the planned fluorination of the drinking water supply beginning on 1 June.

The decision was made in a move to improve dental hygiene among the nation\'s pediatric population.

ULA head Adi Eldar called the ministry decision an attempt at gaining \"popularity\", adding that it would be less expensive to subsidize fluoride pills for the nation\'s children. In addition, the petition brings medical documentation that shows the benefits of the fluoride are limited and may lead to serious disease among the elderly.
