Kadima-Likud Deal Results in Knesset Changes

The Knesset House Committee elected Member of Knesset Zevulun Orlev (Bayit Yehudi), Monday, to become Deputy Knesset Speaker in place of Knesset Member Uri Maklev (United Torah Judaism), who is resigning the position. The selection followed changes brought about by the recent addition of the Kadima party to the ruling coalition. Similarly, MK Lia Shemtov (Yisrael Beytenu) was named to be Deputy Speaker in place of Knesset member Orly Levi-Abekasis (Yisrael Beytenu), who is expected to step down from that position during the day.

Levi-Abekasis received the committee's recommendation to head the Committee on the Rights of the Child in place of Orlev. The House Committee also recommended Member of Knesset Einat Wilf (Atzma'ut) to succeed Knesset member Alex Miller (Yisrael Beytenu)  at the head of the Education, Culture and Sports Committee. The committees are scheduled to vote on the recommendations on Wednesday.
