The Yisrael Beytenu party has demanded that the offices of the Attorney General and State Comptroller investigate funding of Israeli Arab political parties by the Palestinian Authority (PA), according to a Monday morning report by the Yisrael Hayom daily. Muhammad Rashid, economic adviser to former PA chairman Yasser Arafat, revealed to the Jerusalem Post at the beginning of June that the PA transferred funds to the Arab parties before elections to increase their power in the Knesset.
A letter by Yisrael Beytenu Chief Executive Fania Kirschenbaum cites the letter of the law regarding the illegality of contributions not made by individuals or anonymously. Referring to the Jerusalem Post interview, she wrote, "If the claims above are true, and the source of the money is unknown, another grave concern arises that the source of funds (as obtained in the PA) is from one terrorist group or another. Of course, if it's terror funds and it was known to those who received thefunds, there may be even more serious consequences."
