Intensive talks have taken place between residents of Beit El and the government in recent days over the future of homes in the Binyamin-region Jewish community's Ulpana neighborhood, according to a Monday morning report by the Yisrael Hayom daily. Residents of five buildings must be out by July 1st, under a Supreme Court order.
The residents are opposed to government plans to destroy or relocate the buildings. They have proposed sealing the buildings so they cannot be used. Other alternatives include removing the roofs or removing the stairs. The 33 families involved have refused to leave without resistance, despite the government's offer of compensation and promises the families will be back in their homes, in new locations, in a year.
