In a rare interview with both Binyamin Netanyahu and his wife Sarah, the Prime Minister said that it was Sarah who had convinced him to free over 1,000 terrorists in order to free kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. Speaking to a German magazine, Netanyahu said that Sarah “told me 'think about Gilad, think about the boy in the dark cellar, without hope, without light. Think of him as if he were your son. Think of his mother, his father, and then decide.”
In the interview, Sarah Netanyahu complained that she had been a media target as a proxy for her husband. “I am an easy target,” Sarah Netanyahu said. “If they can't get at my husband, they attack me. For the decade my husband was not in politics no one heard any complaints from my staff. Isn't that strange?” She was referring to recent stories in the media quoting workers who had complained about various aspects of their employment as domestics in the Netanyahu household.
