UAV Camera to Detect Hidden Weapons

The Israel Air Force (IAF) is testing a new camera designed to allow unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to gather intelligence invisible to the naked eye, according to the IAF Website. Lieutenant Colonel Yoav, Head of the Intelligence Department in the Equipment Squadron, said the camera could alert personnel to the location of suspicious targets and even areas saturated with chemicals and other materials.

The hyper-spectral camera's main focus is hidden weapons, which it can identify because of the difference between the wavelength of the light emitted by natural cover and the light emitted by the weapons. The civilian world has used the technology for years to identify air pollution, environmental damage and pests in agricultural fields.
