Egyptian Fuel for Gaza Going through Israel

Diesel fuel from Egypt, paid for by Qatar, was transferred to Gaza via Israel on Thursday. The 130,000-liter transfer marked the beginning of a transfer of about 30 million liters to be made over the next month at a pace of about 10-15 tanker trucks a day.

In an unusual step, the Kerem Shalom Crossing, where the western Negev, Gaza and Egypt meet, will be opened Friday to allow continuation of the transfer. The fuel is intended to relieve shortages at the Hamas-controlled area's power plant and reduce the number of prolonged electrical outages there.
