Member of Knesset Ghaleb Majadele (Labor) said, Tuesday, that Jews who bought homes in the Ulpana neighborhood of the Binyamin-region community of Beit El were innocent victims of one big fraud and pointed a finger at National Union chairman Ya'akov Katz. The homes are threatened for uprooting under a Supreme Court order due to claims of ownership by a Palestinian Authority Arab.
Speaking at a Knesset State Control Committe hearing on the uprooting and a Knesset bill intended to save the homes, Majadele noted that Katz was one of three managers who built the neighborhood, adding, "There's an official in the Settlement Division who says that there was a false registration and deliberate misleading." Committee Chairman Uri Ariel responded that to the best of his knowledge, that wasn't so, prompting Majadele to say, "You were both there and you both know the reality." He concluded there was no question between the fraud perpetrated against the Ulpana residents and question of the rule of law that's at stake in the authorization bill issue.
