Shas: No Freedom of Vote? Ministers Will be Absent

The Sephardic hareidi-religious Shas party announced, Monday afternoon, that if Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu imposes coalition discipline, the parties will leave the Knesset floor and not participate in Wednesday's vote on a bill to protect Jewish homes in Judea and Samaria from uprooting ordered by the Supreme Court.

On Sunday, the party announced that its ministers will vote for the bill, then announced that it would uphold coalition discipline and vote with the government. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu appears inclined to vote against the measure out of concern that its passage will bring Israel before the International Court of Justice in the Hague. Over the weekend, he reportedly said he would agree to uproot homes in the Ulpana neighborhood of the Binyamin-region Jewish community of Beit El, have them relocated to the nearby military base and build 50 new homes in their place.
