Yesha Council Chairman Joins Hunger Strikers

Chairman Danny Dayan of the Yesha Council of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria announced, Monday afternoon, that he was joining the week-old hunger strike in support of legislation to authorize homes in the region that are threatened with uprooting under Supreme Court order. Speaking at a news conference in the hunger strikers' protest tent, Dayan welcomed the news that Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz was flying home from a trip to Europe to cast a vote for the measure.

Referring to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's weekend statement that he would allow the uprooting of homes in the Ulpana neighborhood of Beit El, Amona resident Yehuda Yifrach, who started the hunger strike, said that Netanyahu's opposition to the legislation will cause thousands of families to be thrown into the street. He accused the Netanyahu government of giving in to the extreme left.
