Orders Sought to Keep Agitators Away from Yitzhar

Chairman Gershon Mesika of the Samaria (Shomron) Regional Council sent an urgent letter, Monday, to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak and senior security officials, demanding administrative orders to keep extreme leftist activists out of the Yitzhar area. The letter cites recent events, in which the leftists incited Arabs to torch fields and ambush firefighting forces, accompanied by tendentious media.

Mesika wrote, "It is worrisome that the provocations are growing increasingly violent, week after week, to the extent of fear for human life." The letter concluded, "It is inconceivable that while the security services are of the opinion that there are agitators among the residents [and] orders are taken out to remove them, no steps are taken against far-left agitators."
