Chairman Yair Lapid of the Yesh Atid party told a gathering, Sunday, at the Hebrew University's Rechovot campus, that the government's attempt to bypass the Supreme Court through legislation to authorize certain Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria (Shomron) "is the end of the rule of law." His long-term view of the region was "Ultimately we have to evacuate much of the area and 80,000 people will have to go home. It will cause a terrible rupture."
Lapid continued, "Israel failed in the evacuation of Gush Katif and the conclusion is that each person who leaves will have to take a big check to enable him to build a future for himself on his own. It will be a great test of Israeli sovereignty."
