The Spokesperson's Office of the Israel Defense Forces announced, Friday morning, that a 20-year-old soldier from the Golani Brigade was killed in the gunfight that took the life of a terrorist who tried to infiltrate the western Negev during the predawn hours. The soldier's family has been informed but the name of the soldier was not released.
A Golani Brigade unit responded after the terrorist took advantage of fog around 4:00 a.m. to go through a hole he cut in the security fence near the Kissufim crossing. The terrorist opened fire on the soldiers. Artillery soldiers fired back, killing the terrorist. In announcing the soldier's death, the IDF said that airborn units fired on open areas and that it views the Hamas rulers of Gaza as responsible for the incident.
