Former Liberian President Charles Taylor was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Wednesday for war crimes. Taylor was found guilty of supporting Sierra Leone rebels who murdered and mutilated thousands of people during a civil war in that country.
The Special Court for Sierra Leone said Taylor’s crimes were of the “utmost gravity in terms of scale and brutality.”
