The Knesset’s Labor and Welfare Committee has approved new regulations that require tour companies and car rental companies to ensure the availability of handicapped-accessible vehicles. Rabbi Aharon Aberman of the Lev Malka organization for cancer patients in wheelchairs welcomed the decision, saying, “Israel is the first in the world to approve these regulations. This is really good news for the handicapped.”

Rental companies with more than 100 vehicles will be obligated to have 2-7 cars that can be driven by a person with physical disability, and 2 that can be used to transport a disabled person. Tour companies will be required to have 1-12 handicapped-accessible buses, depending on the size of their fleet.
