The Swiss wholesale chain Migros plans to begin labeling Israeli products from Judea, Samaria and parts of Jerusalem as being from “settlement areas.” Products from within Israel’s 1948-1967 borders will continue to be labeled “Israel,” while others will be labeled either “West Bank, Israeli settlement area,” or “East Jerusalem, Israeli settlement area,” World Radio Switzerland reports.
A Migros spokeswoman said the move is aimed to “ensure transparency” and allow customers to make an informed choice.
Factory owners in Judea and Samaria have noted that if sales drop, Palestinian Authority Arabs will be the ones to suffer the consequences. Israeli factories can easily move elsewhere, but PA employees “won’t find better jobs in Ramallah,” they said.
