Bill: Divorced Mothers to get New Term

A new bill would define divorced mothers as “separate parents,” rather than “single mothers.” Until now the term “single mother” has been used for all unmarried mothers, even those with an ex-husband who is still alive and part of his children’s lives.

The bill was put forth by MK Zevulun Orlev (Jewish Home) with help from the Horut Meshutefet = Tovat Hayeled (Shared Parenting for the Good of the Child) organization. The bill aims to change the term, which “turns divorced fathers into secondary parents, who aren’t an integral part of the child’s family,” Horut Meshutefet head Guy Raveh told News1.
