As many as 80% of young couples in Israel are unable to buy homes without assistance from their parents, even if they have been saving tor many years, a study said Monday. The study, by an umbrella group of Israeli builders, is to be formally presented at a meeting of builders later this week.
The report said that a year after social protests against high housing prices, even those who have wealth up to the 90th percentile (ie are richer than all except the top 10% of Israelis) cannot afford apartments on their own. Prices are not going to fall, the report said, but actually would rise, and as a result of future credit squeezes, fewer apartments would be built, driving prices even higher.
