The Jerusalem Magistrates Court convicted police officers Asaf Yekutieli and Baruch Peretz, Monday morning, of involuntary manslaughter in the 2008 death of Palestinian Authority Arab Omar Abu-Jariban. According to the indictment, the victim suffered injuries when a car he stole overturned on Highway 6. The hospital released him to Rechovot police, who had no place to hold him, and orders went throught the two officers to release him in the PA-assigned areas. Abu-Jarivan was taken near the Ofer prison camp, north of Jerusalem, barefoot, in hospital dress, barely able to walk and with no food or water. His body was found there two days later.
Judge Chaim Liran said the decision to return the victim to the PA "screamed for non-implementation for being unreasonable, immoral and inhumane." He said the decision to leave Abu-Jariban by the road, "suffers from being unreasonable and is therefore tainted by negligence that a reasonable person with eyes in his head and compassion in his heart, would not accept."
