Deputy Chief Justice Rivlin Retiring Monday

Vice President Eliezer Rivlin of the Supreme Court is retiring Monday at the age of 70, according to Kol Yisrael government radio, which said Justice Rivlin was thought of as a judge who dealt in damages and freedom-of-expression cases.

Rivlin, who recently lost his campaign to become the next state comptroller, could have become chief justice with the retirement, three months ago, of former court president Dorit Beinisch, but said that he did not want to. Monday also marks the end of the three-month period during which Beinisch may publish decisions.
