The Knesset approved on Monday the first reading of a bill co-authored by Meretz MKs Ilan Gilon and Nitzan Horowitz which gives adopted children the same rights of inheritance as biological children.

According to the existing arrangement, adopted children can inherit their adoptive parents, but when it comes to relatives of the adoptive parents, they do not have a right to inheritance as biological children do. The bill will correct this and give adopted children the right to inherit relatives of their adopted parents and be listed as heirs in their wills.
