Labor Party leader Shelly Yechimovich called Monday for people to support incumbent Ofir Eini in Tuesday's elections for the chairmanship of the Histadrut Labor Federation. Eini is being challenged by Labor Knesset Member Eitan Cabel.
Speaking to the party's Knesset faction, Yechimovich called the union the most significant force against "capitalist policy whose strength has grown now with the unity between the Likud and Kadima." She added that the battle over the 2013 budget won't be simple, adding that the Histadrut would be a central force in the struggle and stronger with Eini as the party's representative. Yechimovich concluded, "This budget will largely determine the character of Israeli society."
