Archaeologists on Monday announced that they had discovered a rare treasure with jewels, coins, and other valuable items. The items were estimated to be about 3,100 years old.
The items were found in Tel Megiddo in northern Israel by archaeologists from Tel Aviv University. The clay jars storing the treasure were discovered in 2010, but it was not clear what was inside because of the accumulated dirt. The jars have been systematically - and carefully – emptied over the past several years, revealing the large treasure. Archaeologists said that the treasure, which they are just beginning to explore, is perhaps the largest and most important discovery made in Israel from the Biblical period.
