Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said, Monday afternoon, that he would ask Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to allow cabinet ministers to vote as they feel on the matter of authorizing previously unauthorized Jewish property in Judea and Samaria (Shomron). Rivlin's comments followed his meeting with four elder rabbis of the religious Zionist movement and Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz.
Katz said he would vote for the legislation and press the prime minister to let other ministers do so. At the same time he noted that Defense Minister Ehud Barak and legal advisors had warned that the passage of an authorization bill could bring Israel to the International Court of Justice in the Hague. Rabbi Zalman Melamed responded by asking, "What kind of Knesset is this, in which 30 ministers cannot express their opinion, where there is the need to represent the position of the people?"
