David Littman of Operation Mural Passes Away at 78

David Littman, a British-born Jewish historian and activist who posed as a Christian to rescue 530 of Moroccan Jewish children in 1961, passed away, Sunday, in Switzerland at the age of 78, according to Jihad Watch. During a time when Jews were not freely allowed to leave, Littman negotiated to have the children go to Switzerland for a vacation and it was from Switzerland that the children went to Israel to be joined by the rest of their families later.

The operation was run by the Mossad intelligence agency, but to maintain its secrecy, Littman was told he was working for the Jewish Agency, although given the code name "Mural", which became the name of the operation. He was reunited with the children he saved in 1986 on the 25th anniversary of the operation.
