The Council on Higher Education is scheduled to vote soon on new rules that will significantly improve the rights of students serving in the military reserves. A student serving 150 days during the course of his or her studies will be allowed to extend the studies without additional payment. A student whose reserve duty is scheduled for registration time will be allowed to register early, subject to the rules of the school.
Other changes include giving reservists priority in eligibility for scholarships and dormitory space, registration and tutorials. According to the National Student Association, half of the nation's students take part in active reserve duty.
