The Western Galilee Hospital in Nahariya will be on strike between 10:00 a.m. and noon, Monday, in protest over an attack on a doctor in the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) who informed relatives of a patient's death. Male nurses rescued the doctor and called security guards, and a complaint was filed with the police. The doctor suffered light physical injuries.
While blaming those directly involved for the attack, Chairman Nimrod Rachamimoff of the doctors at the hospital noted that the 180-percent occupancy of the ICU was a contributing factor, adding that occupancy of the unit has not gone below 150 percent, demanding an immediate solution. While citing the security guards for doing their best, Dr. Rachamimoff said the lack of a permanent presence of uniformed police made for a lack of deterrence toward violence.
