A personal meeting with Vice President Xi Jinping of China was added, Sunday evening to the agenda of Chief of Staff Benny Gantz's working to China. Xi Jinping is expected to be the next president. The invitation was seen as evidence of the warm way in which the lieutenant-general is being received.
China is reciprocating a visit paid by its chief of staff, Chen Bindnge, to Israel last August. The original plan called for Gantz to meet with his counterpart and other Chinese military and security officials to discuss relations between the two armies, as well as the security and strategic challenges of the moment, and for the chief of staff to provide his hosts with a picture of the regional security situation in the Middle East. The itinerary included a live-fire exercise and a visit to the Jewish Museum.
