Equal Service Burden Committee to Start Meetings Monday

The Committee for Equality in Burden of [military or volunteer] Service, headed by Member of Knesset Yochanan Plesner (Kadima), is scheduled to hold its first meeting on Monday. The goal of the committee is to come up with alternatives to the Tal Law, which grants exemptions to draft-age yeshiva students. Before the absorption of Kadima into the ruling coalition, the prospect of elections resulted in an extension of the Tal Law until December, despite a ruling against it by the Supreme Court.

In addition to public figures, each party in the coalition was invited to send a representative. Representatives of the Israel Defense Forces Personnel Branch will be present at every meeting, as will representatives of the national civilian service, the Finance and Justice Ministries, the Authority for Economic Development in the Minority Sector and the National Economic Council. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Deputy Premier Shaul Mofaz are scheduled to attend the opening session.
