Sa'ar: Nakba Law May Need Change

Education Minister Gid'on Sa'ar said, Monday, that the law prohibiting state institutions from observing Nakba Day - the hostile Arab perspective of Israeli Independence Day as a catastrophe - may be amended in light of Tel Aviv University's granting the Zochrot organization to hold a Nakba Day observance on campus. Interviewed by Arutz Sheva's Hebrew service, Sa'ar said he received a legal opinion that the current law did not apply since the observance was not funded directly by the school.

Saar believes that by virtue of the event as "in an area that touches on incitement against the state," as he put it, the university administration can exercise discretion and prevent such an event from taking plaace within its territory.
