The debate over hareidi-religious enlistment in the IDF is based on the assumption that the IDF wants hareidi soldiers – an assumption that is mistaken, according to Minister of the Interior Eli Yishai of the hareidi-religious Shas party.
“While meeting with senior military and security commanders, I was openly told that the army does not want hareidim,” Yishai told IDF Radio. He expressed hope that the government would reach an agreement on hareidi enlistment that is good for everyone involved.
