'Western Wall Stones' Offered on eBay was Gravel

An investigation by the police and the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) indicates that the "stones from the Western Wall" of the Temple in Jerusalem which were recently offered for sale on the eBay auction Website were not ancient stones from the wall itself but gravel collected at the site.

The offer was immediately removed from the Internet site at the request of Western Wall and Holy Sites Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovich. At the time, he said the offer harmed the public's feelings and was forbidden by Jewish law if related to original stones from the wall and could be fraud if it did not involve original stones. IAA chief Shuka Dorfman said that if it was not a violation of antiquities laws, it constituted fraud and false advertising.
