A newspaper in Kuwait on Sunday reported that Egypt has transferred hundreds of soldiers from the area of the Suez Canal to Cairo, because of a severe deterioration of the security situation there. The newspaper quoted sources that said that the ruling military council intends to put an end to the growing protests against their rule. The troop buildup in the capital is also a message to the Muslim Brotherhood, the sources said, indicating that the army will not cede power to the group, despite the results of the recent parliamentary election.
A curfew was imposed on Cairo on Saturday night, and large numbers of tanks and other heavy vehicles were reported in areas where protests have been taking place.
