Members of the Russian Jewish community in cooperation with Russian officials are working to rehabilitate and save the mass grave site in Rostov in southern Russia. The Nazis massacred 27,000 Jewish civilians there in 1943. Several rabbis and other Jewish leaders visited the site and also visited Jewish schools and synagogues in the area.
