Journalist Ilana Dayan was unjust in her coverage of an IDF soldier, fellow journalist Mati Golan charged Tuesday. Golan spoke at a panel on communications and slander hosted by Ariel University.

Dayan reported that IDF soldier “Lieutenant R” had killed a young Arab girl, and that soldiers had then held a party. In fact, the party had taken place a long time before the event. Other “evidence” presented by Dayan was found to be flawed as well; however, she was found innocent of slander by the Supreme Court, which ruled she had believed the false information she presented to be true.

“I took it on myself to look out for Lieutenant R, I published several articles about the matter,” said Golan. “Dayan, who so supports freedom of expression, threatened me with a slander suit on several occasions.”
