The government on Sunday authorized the granting of special benefits to consumers who purchase environmentally friendly vehicles. The purchase tax on electric cars was cut to 8%, from its previous level of 10%. In addition, the purchase tax on hybrid vehicles will not be raised this year.

The reductions will cost the government NIS 130 million, and will take effect at the beginning of June.
