Egypt: We Did Not Deny Permits to American NGOs

Muhammad al-Dimirdash, legal adviser to the Egyptian Ministry of Insurance and Social Affairs and vice chairman of the State Council, denied, Thursday, that the government in Cairo recently refused to grant licenses to foreign organizations, including those of the United States, to operate in Egypt.

Interviewed by Ash-Sharq Il-Awsat, Dimirdash explained that the media reports on this issue were based on dated figures and information. He stressed that only five foreign organizations applied for licenses in 2012, only one of them satisfied the conditions, and it has been granted a license to operate in Egypt.
