"Gush Etzion is the Essence of Zionism"

A memorial ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Kfar Etzion cemetery in the Gush Etzion district of Judea. The families of victims of terrorist attacks attended. Member of Knesset Tzipi Hotovely (Likud Party) attended as well and stated, "the creation, fall, and resurrection of Gush Etzion is the essence of Zionism as a whole." The mayor of the Gush Etzion regional council Davidi Pearl spoke as well.

The Gush Etzion region was over-run by Jordanian Legion forces in 1948. The residents of the Kfar Eztion agricultural community were either taken captive or executed by the Arab Jordanians. In the Six Day War of 1967, Israel liberated the area and former residents returned to the region.
