Residents of Gush Etzion, located in the Judea region will celebrate Yom Haatzmaut - Israel Independence day on Thursday on the hilltop of Netzer. The area is a barren stretch of land located next to the village of Efrat. Childrens events and performances will take place. Tours of new farming and archeological sites will take place. Nobel Prize winner Professor Israel Aumann, and Member of Knesset Dr. Arieh Eldad are scheduled to speech.
Organizers say the purpose of the event is not only to celebrate Independence Day but also to prevent non-Jews from usurping the area. Residents say they hope Netzer will become a new neighborhood for Efrat's rapidly growing population of young families.
