In honor of Israel's 64th Independence Day, the Bank of Israel has released the "Sea of Galilee" coin. Aviv Katz, CEO of Israel Coins and Medals Corp, said that the faces on the coins were that of personalities closely associated with the Sea of Galilee. The individuals who appear on the coins are Zohar Oved, mayor of the city of Tiberias, Aharonik Israeli, veteran member of Kibbutz Kvutzat Kinneret, and Rev. Fr. Jerome V. Dery, Head of St. Peter's Memorial Church.

Pictured on the coin is a view of the Sea of Galilee. In the foreground are the palm trees and wild flowers that characterize its shore. The Golan Heights can be seen in the background. The coin obverse bears the face value of the coin, the word "Israel" in English, Hebrew and Arabic, the mint year, Israel State emblem and harp-shaped outline of the Sea of Galilee.

Katz said that the "Sea of Galilee" coin has been struck in 22k gold proof with a 10 New Sheqalim face value and maximum mintage of 555 coins. There are two silver versions, one proof quality with a 2 New Sheqalim face value and maximum mintage of 2,800 and one Prooflike with a 1 New Sheqel face value and maximum mintage of 1,800.
